Log Eleven: Task 2A - Reflective Practice

Having just started week three of my journal I am quite stunned about how I have enjoyed this task because initially I was apprehensive about having a journal because while I love reading I usually struggle to creatively write about my day.
I have found that having a mini notepad to have come in handy as I have been able to write quick notes (In a bullet points and spider gram format) while I am working in a lesson at my local primary school as I have found it’s important in understanding the learning objective a teacher sets to their class and how they plan on teaching the material and how the students respond to their teaching style as well as the material. Also, I have found it easier to keep my journal day notes in my phone via text applications or the built in voice recorder when I am at Chickenshed Theatre Company, which I have used the most when storing information. Afterwards I would wait until the second week day of the journal to type up both days and reflect on each. This method has allowed me to to actively compare two days before reflection phase.
Finally I have found it to be useful to review the week as a whole at the weekend to enable me to critically reflect upon my own thoughts and how I can develop my “active thinking”. Thanks for reading.

  1. I totally agree Marc! I also love reading but I am apprehensive about my creative writing but it has been really fun to share my experiences with other as well as reading others. Keep up the entries! :)

  2. Dear Marc,

the idea to combine voice recording and writing appears very logical to me. Because with the voice recorder you can record directly after an event. Plus, I suppose people think more before they have to write something, than just to talk about it.
To record your thought, is a good method, but the disadvantage is, that you must have a quite place to do this. Or not?
That would be a problem for me, because I am usually surrounded with people and do not have the opportunity to record a view sentences. When and where are you doing this?
Go on, I am exciting to her more from you about your journal experience.

  3. Hi Mark,
I really like your idea of reflecting at the end of the week. Whilst I am finding using my journal to reflect daily really helpful I feel that summarising at the end of the week would be very useful. I would be able to clearly see my progress and how i was able to implement my thoughts on how i could improve my professional practice.

Ver useful idea, Thank you :)

  4. Hi Marc,

Good Blog. I think your practical approach to reflecting is excellent. It is really important to develop your own approach that works for you. It does not matter whether you use a notebook, or a laptop or pad, as long as you are engaged in the practice of reflection.
